About the Artist
Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter and art theorist, is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstract art. Born in Moscow in 1866, he spent his childhood in Odessa before moving to Munich to study art at the age of 30. In 1914, Kandinsky returned to Russia after the outbreak of World War I and played a significant role in establishing the Museum of the Culture of Painting following the Russian Revolution. However, due to his spiritual outlook being foreign to Soviet society, he moved back to Germany in 1920, where he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture until its closure by the Nazis in 1933. He then relocated to France, becoming a French citizen in 1939 and producing some of his most prominent works there.
The Painting
Created in 1925,
Yellow, Red, Blue is an iconic painting by Wassily Kandinsky that showcases his mastery of abstract art. The primary colors on the canvas feature squares, circles, and triangles, with the painting divided into two distinct halves. The left side boasts rectangles, squares, and straight lines in bright colors, while the right side displays darker colors in various abstract shapes. This contrast highlights Kandinsky's ability to manipulate color and form to create a dynamic composition.
