Charles Maurin, a French painter and engraver, was born on April 1, 1856, in Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. He received the Prix Crozatier in 1875, which enabled him to study art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under
Jules Lefebvre from 1876 to 1879. Maurin also studied at the Académie Julian, where he later taught.
Artistic Career and Style
Maurin's artistic style was characterized by its eclecticism, but he is often associated with the Symbolist movement. His work
La Maternité, a prime example of his Symbolist style, showcases his unique approach to capturing the essence of reality.
