Georg Christoph Stoy is considered one of the most important paper manufacturers of the 18th century. He was based in the city of Augsburg, in Bavaria, and produced all kinds of paper decorations, including paste paper, which is a type of surface design in which a colored, viscous media (generally starch paste) is applied directly to the paper surface and modified with various tools and techniques to render an array of patterns and effects. He is also known for his work as a bookbinder and book decorator. Stoy's paste paper was often used as endpapers and covering papers in bookbinding, furniture linings, and wallpaper.
