Jan Gerritsz. Van Bronckhorst, also known as Bronchorst or Bronkhorst, was a Dutch Golden Age painter and engraver. He is considered today to be a minor member of the Utrecht Caravaggisti. According to Arnold Houbraken, Jan Gerritsz. Van Bronckhorst apprenticed as an eleven-year-old with the glass engraver Verburgh in Utrecht. He worked with him for 6 months and then with two other painters before becoming a pupil of Abraham Bloemaert.
Life and Career
Jan Gerritsz. Van Bronckhorst was born in 1603 in the Netherlands. He became a member of the Utrecht Guild of St. Luke in 1629 and was its dean in 1637. He married Maria van Utrecht in 1632 and had five children.
