Juan Andrés Merklein or Merclein was a Spanish painter of Flemish origin. He was born in Anholt, Germany in 1716 and died in Zaragoza, Spain in 1797. Merklein specialized in portraits, but also painted religious and allegorical works. He was the first painting teacher of Francisco Bayeu y Subías, who later became his son-in-law. Merklein's first work to be auctioned was 'Virgen con el Niño con orla de flores' in 2022. He was a professor of painting in Zaragoza and painted the frescoes in the dome of the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza.
