Pablo Rigalt Y Fargas, also known as Pau Rigalt i Fargas, was a Catalan painter and scenographer born in 1778 in Barcelona, Spain. He is considered one of the pioneers of Neoclassicism in Catalonia, a style that emerged during the 18th century and emphasized the use of classical Greek and Roman motifs.
Training and Early Career
Pablo Rigalt Y Fargas trained at the Escola de la Llotja with
Pere Pau Montaña i Placeta and
Joseph Flaugier. He later completed his training in Madrid, where he was exposed to a wide range of artistic styles and techniques. During the Peninsular War,
Pablo Rigalt Y Fargas lived in Vilanova i la Geltrú, where he performed decorative work at several homes, including one belonging to the
Llopis de Sitges family.
Notable Works and Contributions

Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, including his decorative work at the
Casa del Poeta Cabanyes. He also worked at the
Teatre de la Santa Creu, where he was appointed Director of decorations and stage machinery. In 1825,
Pablo Rigalt Y Fargas was named to replace
Bonaventura Planella as a Professor of drawing at
La Llotja.
