Lui Shou-kwan was a Chinese painter and one of the most prominent ink painters of the 20th century. He is known as a founder of the Hong Kong New Ink Movement. Lui studied economics at Guangzhou University before moving to Hong Kong in 1948, where he worked for the Hongkong and Yaumati Ferry Company until 1966. He was active in organizing art societies alongside Chao Shao-an and became an honorary adviser to the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 1962. Lui taught ink painting at the University of Hong Kong's Department of Architecture, as well as at the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Department of Extra-Mural Studies. He is most known for his 'Zen' series of abstract paintings and was awarded an MBE in 1971 for his contributions to the arts.
