Sebastián De Llanos Y Valdés was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period, mainly active in Seville. He was born at Seville and was a pupil of Francisco Herrera the Elder, one of the most important painters of the time. Sebastián De Llanos Y Valdés was an active member of the artistic community in Seville. In 1660, he supported
Bartolomé Esteban Murillo in founding the
Academia de Bellas Artes (Academy of Art), and later made frequent donations of oil and other materials for the students' use. He was thrice chosen president of the Academy, in 1666 and the two following years. Sebastián De Llanos Y Valdés is also notable for having worked under the despotic
Francisco Herrera the Elder longer than any other of his scholars.
