Josef Von Brandt

Josef Von Brandt, also known as Józef Brandt, was a Polish painter, best known for his paintings of battles. Born in 1841 in Szczebrzeszyn, Poland, and died in 1915 in Radom, Poland. He studied in Warsaw in the school of J.N. Leszczynski and at the Noblemen's Institute. In 1858 he left for Paris to study at the Ecole centrale Paris but was persuaded by Juliusz Kossak to abandon engineering in favor of painting.

Artistic Career

Brandt's paintings mostly study 17th-century military life, though he has also made some studies of Polish peasant life. His notable works include "Battle of Vienna", "Jan Karol Chodkiewicz during the battle of Khotyn", and "Polish Hussar". These paintings are considered to be some of his best works, showcasing his exceptional skill in capturing the essence of military life.
