From the Artist: In a time of isolation, I searched for a way to connect with people. I wanted to express my love for them and appreciation for the gifts they have given me. The path I found was to draw. I started drawing regularly for the first time in my adult life. Watching the world slow down also led to my own quieting and an appreciation for buildings and places that have played a role in my life. I started making “house portraits” of the homes of friends and family that I would then give to the owner. The drawings were made with pen and ink, water color, and colored pencils on watercolor paper. “Sisters’ House” is 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches and based on a photograph I took while visiting my best friend in London. I changed the door color to a bright blue and gave it the street name of “2021.” The glowing light coming from the other side is hopefully an invitation to enter better times. I used this image for my holiday card. “Sloten” is 6 1/2 inches square and also based on a photograph I took while visiting loved ones. This time while on a canal trip with my in-laws in the Netherlands.
